Stuff the Bus
Stuff the Bus 2006 The Kiwanis Club of Winter Haven is launching its 2006 Stuff the Bus campaign. Stuff the Bus is a collaborative effort of the Winter Haven Kiwanis Club along with concerned professionals and individuals who realize the importance of making sure that no child is left behind when the school year starts. With support from the community, the Kiwanis Club of Winter Haven will collect school supplies and distribute them to 11 elementary school principals, who then will decide which students need the supplies most. With over 55% of Polks students living at or below the poverty level, this project is a welcome relief to administrators & educators. Last year the club delivered over $15,000 worth of supplies. This years supplies will be delivered on July 26th. The goal of trying to help needy students has some side benefits. It allows teachers to focus on teaching the first few days of school instead of trying to help students acquire the basic school supplies they need. In addition, each teacher spends approximately $1,000 of his or her own money to help students throughout the year. Through their efforts the Kiwanis Club hopes to reduce this amount significantly. How can you help? Financial donations will be used to purchase supplies that are in demand. Contributions are tax deductible and be assured that 100% of all donations to the Winter Haven Kiwanis Club will be used to purchase supplies for Winter Haven area kids. Another way you can help is to allow the club to place a drop box(es) inside your business during the first week of July. These boxes are much like Toys for Tots boxes which encourage employees and customers to donate items. Contact Suzie Moraco at 291-8330 or Les Adams at 287-3074 if you would like to help.
